The production and consumer demand for cigarettes and tobacco has increased constantly since it was produced back in the early 1500’s. John Rolfe was the first to commercialize tobacco in Virginia and sell at a large quantity to the residents and local people. It became a huge success with the locals and some parts of America, tobacco was then shipped to Europe, and this in fact resulted in the capture and deliverance of slaves across the Atlantic by the means of the return journey from when tobacco was transported.
Since that point the need for tobacco has thrived all across the world and spread to every corner, smoking tobacco of some form or cigarettes has become extremely common in more or less every household. The vast demand for one specific product due to mainly its addictive substances has lead to probably the largest single market for an individual item/product which is the cigarette. Cigarettes are available in practically every shop supermarket, store, convenience store, petrol station and many other points of sale.
Buyers and smokers of cigarettes are very conscious of the consequences of the affects it has on our health and well being. Labelling and packaging have most recently been used to demonstrate the affects, also government campaigns have clearly expressed the outcome that can result from passive smoking of cigarettes. Every single smoker is one hundred percent conscious of what smoking cigarettes can do to them yet still the addiction is too hard to beat off, or simply people enjoy the stimulation from a cigarette far greater than the fear of where it can lead. Smoking is used mainly as a form of stress relief, and also as a social utility, but the problem that we have today is that many of the smokers who started smoking wasn’t aware at the time of the consequences. Them smokers face an uphill struggle to fight the addiction of cigarettes that they may never win.
The increased awareness of how tobacco and cigarettes affect our health has lead to several dramatic changes in public areas recently in many countries. Smoking cigarettes has become illegal in many bars, workplaces, restaurants, pubs, and many other public areas. It’s a big shock to the system as many smokers require cigarettes to get through their day, and are use to smoking at a dinner table, in a bar, or at the comfort of their own job. Its quite fair to think although that everyone else who has had to put up with smokers smoking all around them in these public places don’t have to anymore, but every smoker and non smoker have became accustomed to smoking. Life is a lot more difficult for those smokers who have to lets say; leave the office every 20 minutes to have a cigarette, but sales of cigarettes have not declined like everyone first thought.
Now there is a different problem altogether with litter levels rising out on the streets where smokers have been forced to smoke cigarettes. So what is next for tobacco, and those cigarette smokers who are constantly under scrutiny for their addiction? What we do know is that cigarettes will always be in demand because it is still the largest market in the world, and when there is demand, there is supply.
